Caroline Champougny
Artist and Event Organiser
Art and crafts have always been essential parts of my life, especially since 2007, when I started painting with acrylic on a regular basis. I studied art in academia for a couple of years but preferred the freedom of experimenting with crafts on my own.
As a paint and art lover, I founded Let’s Paint Pompey in 2018 to bring more opportunities to be creative while socialising in Portsmouth’s pubs. I can’t think of a better way to spend my days: creating models and teaching others how to paint them!
Replicas
Reproducing artworks from reknown artists allowed me to hone my techniques. Renoir, Van Gogh, Roy Lichtenstein, Afremov, to name only a few, were my artistic “mentors”.

Original creations
My semi-figurative paintings are created following my “stream of consciousness”. This term, coined by Willian James in 1890 in The Principles of Psychology, designates the expression of thoughts and feelings that pass through the mind. It was mainly used in literature by James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Marcel Proust to depict interior monologue. When I sketch a future painting, I let my mind wander and try to link in an aesthetic way the elements that flow in my stream of consciousness.
